Zed!

Hello:

Yes, Zed. This isn't the end (or maybe it is, but it's the other end), nor am I beginning at the end. And since this is my first entry, let us hope that I don't end at the beginning.

I'm starting at Zed because that's the title of the book I'm currently reading. The author is Elizabeth McClung, who I discovered in late 2007. Now I'm addicted to her blog, and honoured to be considered her friend. I've also read the blogs of some of Beth's commenters, and some of them have inspired - oops (sorry Beth!), encouraged me to start my own blog.

I have read and enjoyed many blogs, but they've almost all been the blogs of people with one or another disability. I've not bothered with any blogs from people living without disabilities, and I don't know what able-bodied people blog about. Maybe I'll find out, maybe not.

So here we are, at the beginning of an adventure. How long an adventure it will be, I know not, but you're welcome to stay and enjoy the ride. Comment away, and maybe we'll travel together.

By the way, I won't presume to review Zed. Not yet. I can tell you it's not a light-hearted book, but I'll wait to comment on it until I've finished it.

Stopping by to give you a pat on the back and a bit of encouragement. Good for you, blogging away!

Thank you! I'm not sure how much I have to say, but we'll see. I seem to be better at editing than original thought.

Hello Neil :D. If you're going to name all your blogs alphabetically then 'foxtrot' should be entertaining! haha.

Hey Neil:

Don't worry about not having anything to say. Douglas and go through patches of silence. He tends to fill them up with photos. But mostly we just ramble on about things that interest us at the moment.

Let's see: words that begin with Y. Hmmm. Yellow, yolk, yoke, YMCA, yankee, yell, youth, yes, yodel. Lots to choose from.

No, I wasn't planning alphabetically ordered entries. I was having trouble with a first entry, and Beth's book title seemed like a good place to start.

Gaina: I would probably use "Finch" since there are a couple in our back yard.

Heather: thanks for the encouragement. Yes, this will also be an opportunity to practice photography again.

Hey Neil, welcome to blogging. I know what you mean about worrying about not having anything to say; what I usually do is pick up something someone else has written and write my own take on it, just to get myself going. And I often find that I do have things to say that other people haven't yet said about a given topic.

Or there's always photos. Taking photos to post on my blog has actually gotten me out of the house more, lol.

I was going to recommend some other non-political, personal type bloggers that aren't disabled for an interesting read, but a browse through my reading list shows that even the bloggers who don't blog as disabled and aren't connected to the online disability community actually do have a disability or two. For all I know, every single person I read online is disabled; the most I know is that I don't know about some of them. How strange.

Anyway, I look forward to reading what you have to say. :)

Thank you so much for checking in!

Fridawrites: Hi back to you too. *waving over the monitor* I look forward to finding time to read "Zed." Family sometimes takes precedence.

Tayi: I'm finding that almost everyone has some sort of disability. Sometimes it's a temporary thing, like a broken leg, or a knee that needs replacing, sometimes it's a little learning problem. But we will ALL have some sort of disability some time in our lives.

Hey Neil

Welcome to the blogosphere, as it were.

Don't worry too much about topics, it will just come to you. I have an endlessly looping internal monolouge and a lot of my blog comes out of that. I see or read or hear something and it just gets me to thinking ...

I'm not a stills kinda guy but I realized that I hadn't created just a video for me in a lot of years so I find my blog a great place just to futz around for fun in the medium that supports me

And I can always just write about my dog

You're a funny guy, everyone needs a laugh, and a humourous take on anything is always welcome

Thanks, Victor. I really enjoyed your Wild Weekend video. I'll have to email privately and ask about software. At least we're using the same hardware company!

My task this week will be to figure out how to add photos to the entries. I'm sure it's not difficult, but I haven't found the technical manuals yet.

Hi Neil,

Been meaning to read your blog since the first day you started. I look forward to reading many more entries. I always appreciate your comments that you leave on Beth's blog.

Love to hear about what you thought of Zed when you're done.
